WolfGang@ BOKA

Randy Levitt currently serves as the Vice President of the WolfGang Advisory Council. Randy is Los Angeles native, an avid skier and spends his days working at Microsoft. Read his report on the latest WolfGang event.

On February 17, WolfGang hosted a post-concert reception at BOKA Kitchen & Bar following Viola Spectacular with Pinchas Zukerman. BOKA is located on the ground floor of Hotel 1000 in downtown Seattle and is my favorite WolfGang reception venue because of its wonderful ambiance and great food! WolfGang gathered in the lounge area, which was complete with a fire-pit. BOKA’s generosity with amazing appetizers and super-fast drink service provided the perfect setting to get to know other WolfGang members. A wide range of members were in attendance, from those who have been in WolfGang for years to those who had just moved to Seattle. I met five people whom I had never met before, and I am positive that everyone in attendance met at least one new person. Overall, I enjoyed the reception at BOKA immensely and hope they have us back next year!

WolfGang’s next event is Thursday, April 21. WolfGang members are invited to a pre-concert reception at The Triple Door, prior to the Slatkin Conducts Gershwin & Tchaikovsky concert. Then, during intermission, members are invited to an exclusive wine tasting on the Davis/Grinstein Promenade in Benaroya Hall’s Grand Lobby.

WolfGang@ Mozart’s Requiem, Thoa’s and Sip Wine Bar

Dan Vancini has been a WolfGang member for five years. By day, he works in website production and as a copywriter for Holland America Cruise Lines. By night, he’s a member of Seattle Symphony’s WolfGang. Read on for his report on last weekend’s amazing trio of WolfGang events: the Symphony’s Mozart Requiem concert; a pre-concert reception at Thoa’s; and the WolfGang Winter Party at Sip Restaurant & Wine Bar.

It was a full weekend of WolfGang events enjoyed by longtime members and first-time guests alike. It started off on Friday night with a pre-concert reception at Thoa’s (a new venue for us, by the way), where we enjoyed drinks and a generous spread of appetizers in between catching up with old friends and welcoming several new members. It was a good-sized crowd Friday night, no doubt due in large part to the enduring popularity of Mozart’s Requiem, the centerpiece of that evening’s Seattle Symphony concert. This was the first time I’ve seen Mozart’s Requiem (not counting the scenes in the movie Amadeus) and personally I thought it was one of the most memorable performances I’ve seen in my five years as a WolfGang member.

Sunday was our WolfGang Winter Party, held at Sip Restaurant & Wine Bar. Between sips of wine and the ever-popular cosmos — and sneaking frequent peeks at the TVs to check on the football game scores — a game of Wolfgang Bingo (copyright pending) broke out.

The highlight of the event was an concert by the Barston Quartet, comprised of Seattle Symphony violinists Elisa Barston and Mikhail Shmidt, violist Mara Gearman, and cellist Walter Gray, who treated us to an intimate performance set against the dramatic backdrop of downtown city lights framed by floor-to-ceiling windows. Many thanks to them for coming in to play for us. And many thanks to our members and guests who joined us for the weekend. It was a perfect way to kick off the new year, and we look forward to more events with you this season and next.

WolfGang’s next event is Thursday, February 17. WolfGang members are invited to a post-concert reception at BOKA Kitchen, following a Viola Spectacular with Pinchas Zukerman.

WolfGang@ Sound Spirits

Last Thursday one of our WolfGang Council members organized a visit to Sound Spirits, a Seattle distillery. Calvin is a longtime member of WolfGang who spends his days as an engineer at Boeing. He shares his thoughts on the event:

“It was only a matter of time until an ambitious entrepreneur started a local distillery in Seattle. It makes perfect sense given all of Seattle’s local breweries and wineries. Well, that day has finally arrived and, as luck would have it, the owner happens to be a coworker of mine. Steven Stone is a fellow Boeing engineer during the day but when the sun sets, he’s the Master Distiller of Sound Spirits, Seattle’s first distillery since Prohibition.

“A group of WolfGang members recently visited Sound Spirits for a tour and tasting. We got a firsthand look at the distillery’s equipment and how to turn barley to vodka (or gin for that matter). Plus, I finally found someone who was willing to explain all the intricacies and characteristics of various spirits. Who would have thought learning could be fun?

“Of course, the highlight of the night was the tasting of Steven’s new Ebb+Flow Gin before it’s released to the public. We hope to be back soon to see what else Sound Spirits has in store for the future.”
